1st Race: Open Timber
The Howard County Hunt Cup
3 miles, over 3’6” fences; minimum weight 165 lbs. A perpetual trophy in memory of Katherine Lee Warfield. $10,000 purse, 60% to 1st; 20% to 2nd; 12% to 3rd; 8% to 4th.
2nd Race: Novice Timber
The Alda Clark Plate
3 miles over 3’6” fences. Minimum weight 165 lbs. For non-winners over timber prior to the 1st of the current year; for each win since the 1st of the current year add 5 lbs. A perpetual trophy. Sponsored by M.T. Laney.
3rd Race: Foxhunter Timber
About 3 miles over timber, fences not to exceed 3'6". Horses must be fairly hunted, at least five years old, and are not to have won a sanctioned timber race in the last three (3) years. Riders who have ridden under rules during the last five (5) years or who are entered in any other race of the day are ineligible for this race. Proper hunting attire. Catch weight. May be run as a Field Master Chase, at the discretion of the committee. In a Field Masters Chase, riders will follow at hunting pace behind a Field Master and will be released to race for the finish. Divisions may be combined at the discretion of the committee. Non-Thoroughbreds must be declared at time of entry.
Specify Division:
A. Open: Horses must be fairly hunted by the rider, in accordance with the MSA General Conditions for foxhunters; rider must be a member of an organized pack of hounds.
B. The Founders’ Cup: Restricted to members of the Howard County-Iron Bridge Hounds. The Founders’ Cup perpetual trophy in memory of the founding members of the Howard County Hunt Club, donated by M.L. Dawson Lee to the winner; the Iron Bridge Phantom Fox Hunt perpetual trophy to the first non-Thoroughbred winner; awards to the first man, first woman and first junior to cross the finish line.
4th Race: Ponies
The Cattail Junior Races and $500 Challenge
Riders not to have reached their 16th birthday. Catch weights. Mounts to be a minimum of five years old and are not to have won a sanctioned timber race in the last three (3) years. Riders are to follow the Field Master over a flagged course. 1 mile with no more than 12 obstacles not to exceed 2’3”.After the last fence, the Field Master will release the field to race for the finish line. Entries may be asked to queue or circle at any point. Proper hunting or racing attire accepted. The use of whips is strictly prohibited. Non-Thoroughbreds should be declared at time of entry. All riders must meet the qualifications of 11a of the Maryland Steeplechase Associations' General Conditions. Divisions may be combined at the discretion of the committee.

A. Small Pony [1a]; B. Medium Pony [1b] ; C. Large Pony [1c]; D. Junior Horse [1d]
$1,000 Trainer Award
$1,000 award to the leading trainer with horses running in the Howard County Cup (open timber) and the Alda Clark Plate (novice timber). Leading trainer determined by starts and points earned in placings in accordance with the General Conditions.
A $500 Junior Group Award
A $500 bonus will be awarded to the pony club, hunt club, 4-H club or stable with the greatest number of combined starts in the Cattail River Junior Races. Club must present a letter to the racing secretary noting the name of the club, the adult coordinator, address and contact information, and the names of the horses and riders participating that day. Club must be acceptable to the committee.

Post Race Kentucky Derby Party
Immediately following the last race, all owners, riders and trainers are invited to the corporate tent (no cover, cash bar); the Kentucky Derby will be aired on monitors in the corporate tent and aroumd the course.
Directions: From I-70, south on Rt 97, left on Jennings Chapel; course will be on the right.
